“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.”, Nelson Mandela
Art is a powerful tool to evoke social change. It has the potential to creating a world where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated.”
Art is also a source of education and can affect change.
I often participate and become part through my visual art of initiatives with a cause.
The international competition “Embracing our differences” is an event – competition and is organized in Sarasota, Florida, every year. People from around the world, not only professional artists, but literally everyone who feels he could contribute with his art gets involved in the initiative.
Since 2004, Embracing Our Differences has used the power of art and prose to promote diversity. One way we accomplish this is through our annual international art exhibition in Sarasota’s Bayfront Park. The juried exhibit consists of 45 billboard-sized works of art, each accompanied by an inspirational quote. The winning artworks combine a deep understanding of both medium and message. The statements accompanying each artwork are also vital and provide insight into our common humanity—as well as the differences that make us all unique. Last year’s exhibit had an impressive response to the call for artwork and inspirational quotes, with 11,791 entries pouring in from 111 countries and 44 states.
My submission to this year’s (2019) event is “My heart”.
I believe that a heart has the power and the potential to embrace the whole world. Let’s use that power!
