American Idol 7: Carly Smithson Elimination Interview
Judge Simon believed Carly Smithsons rendition of Andrew Lloyd Webbers Jesus Christ Superstar was one of the best performances during the Top 6 Live episode. However the votes were not enough to keep Carly from being eliminated from the FOX hit reality TV talent search American Idol. In an exit interview with the press Carly shared her thoughts on her AI experience.
Carly said that at this stage wherein they were in the top six no one felt safe anymore. I feel that everybody was kind of thinking they were going home. Were all just so grateful for the experience. I feel like American Idol has given me such a gift such a platform to be able to launch myself off of she explained.
The fact that shell be back in two weeks to start preparing for the tour made Carly less sad about leaving Its like a small break and Im gonna be back. I think anywhere after top 10 is just a bonus.
Asked on whether she was surprised to go home earlier than the others Carly said she understood the fact that some contestants have bigger fanbases than her. My fans were very good to me and they kept me in as long as they did. And I truly believe when you have a good night it is maybe the kiss of death because your fans dont powervote for you like if you had a bad night. And thats just the way it goes. And I have no hard feelings she said.
Carly admitted her favorite was Amanda Overmyer saying that she was a fantastic person. Among those Top 5 remaining Carly said she could never pick a favorite because she love them all.
Carly also related how she felt every time Simon criticized her look. I understood what he meant by Put on the glitz a little bit and look like a star. But I came from a bar. I dont necessarily know what a star is supposed to be how theyre supposed to act or whatever. You know thats just part of learning. And I think I learned a lot on the show and Im very very grateful to the show said Carly.
On the next episode the Top 5 will perform songs from Neil Diamond.
